The Best of Kenya Camping Tour
A wonderful tour that takes you through diverse
areas of Kenya give the traveler an excellent mix of people wildlife
and scenic countryside.
Day 1, Samburu Game Reserve
From Nairobi, pass the majestic Mt. Kenya en route to the open savannah
of Samburu Game Reserve. We camp in the narrow stretch of palms
and woodland by the Ewaso Nyiro River which provides water for the
animals and some relief from the equatorial sun.
Day 2, Samburu Game Reserve
Enjoy a full day of game viewing along the river banks and surrounding
scrublands with time out from the midday sun for a refreshing swim
at Buffalo Springs. This is a particularly good place to spot elephant
and antelope.
Day 3, Lake Baringo, Great Rift
Valley
Leaving Samburu, cross the Lerochi Plateau and descend to the floor
of the Great Rift Valley, arriving at Lake Baringo by early afternoon.
This fresh water lake supports an abundance of birdlife alongside
hippos and crocodiles that languish on the lake shore.
Day 4, Lake Bogoria, Lake Nakuru
At the nearby Lake Bogoria visit an area of bubbling hot springs
and steaming geysers, and admire the pink swathes of flamingos on
the soda lake. Then at Lake Nakuru National Park enjoy an afternoon
game drive, where we literally trip over the many rhino in the park,
and if lucky might see a pride of lion languishing in the shade,
or leopard in the Acacia trees.
Day 5 - 6, Masai Mara
Travel south through the beautiful savannahs and plains of the Rift
Valley and reach our base camp site, where we enjoy another evening
out bush under the far-reaching African sky. Spend the next day
on game drives exploring the Masai Mara. The open grasslands are
home to incredibly rich and varied wildlife and the awesome, annual
migration of millions of wildebeest and antelope is the highlight
of any visit to Africa from July to September.
Day 7, Masai Mara, Nairobi
Heading north to Narok, we stop to browse in the bustling, vibrant
Masai markets to buy curios and handicrafts before continuing to
Nairobi where our safari ends.
